Welcome to the first article in our series, “From Soil to Table: The Path to a Healthy Meal.” Here, we’ll take you on a journey through the life of the vegetables and fruits grown on our ecological farm. By following their path from seed to harvest, you’ll gain insight into the energy, resilience, and natural processes that shape the food on your plate.
Understanding this journey helps us connect with the challenges our crops face—plagues, rain, wind, extreme temperatures, and competition for nutrients. Recognizing these trials reveals the immense transformation of energy that occurs before they reach our table.
This Week on the Farm
This week, we began the next stage in our planting process. Under the rising moon, we planted young seedlings in prepared boxes, creating the best possible conditions for growth. During the new moon, we enriched the soil with our fresh, homemade compost, nurturing it to support the young plants.
Planting is done by hand. We place each plant carefully into the soil with bare hands, giving them our wishes for strength, resilience, and growth. We also provide them with plenty of water to help them settle in. I find joy in watering the plants—you can almost sense their gratitude as they take in the moisture.
The next day, however, brought a challenge: a Calima, bringing strong, hot winds. We were concerned about the plants in this extreme weather, so we gave them extra water and care, ensuring they had the strength to withstand the heat. By the week’s end, we felt a sense of accomplishment. Despite the harsh conditions, each plant had grown and survived.

Stay tuned as we continue this journey together, discovering how mindful, sustainable practices and natural resilience shape the healthy food we ultimately enjoy on our plates.

You’re welcome Yineke! Here’s hoping you have a wonderful week! xox
