The Illusion of Time as a Linear Experience

In December, we explored how slowing down can help us break free from the illusion of time, and how practices like Tai Chi allow us to reclaim a more grounded, present-centered experience of reality. You can read that article here , Overcome Holiday Stress with Tai Chi: The Art of Slowing Down and Transcending the Illusion of Time That article opened a door to a deeper question: how much of our experience is shaped by what we believe about it?

The most powerful, and perhaps most limiting beliefs we carry around time are that it is fixed, not changeable, bendable, or subject to influence and that it moves in a straight line. We’re taught that life unfolds from past to future, and we’re here to move forward, step by step, toward something better. When time is a line, we begin to live for what’s next. Every moment becomes a means to an end.

But what if time is changeable? What if it doesn’t move in a straight line at all?

What if time is circular, always moving, yes, but also looping back? Then chasing our goals becomes like a dog spinning in circles after its own tail. The movement is real, the effort is intense, but the progress remains elusive. Goal orientation can become obsession. You keep spinning around yourself, hoping to catch something that feels essential, only to discover, eventually, that the tail was always yours.

The Circular Time Experience

This shift in perspective, from time as a straight line to time as a circle, became deeply personal for me after experiencing the sudden deaths of both my parents, and more recently, the loss of my husband. These events made it undeniably clear: we don’t control the amount of time we have. And yet, how we perceive our time shapes everything, what we prioritize, what we abandon, and how we define success.

As a business student, I was driven. I had clear goals, a roadmap to a successful career, and the motivation to pursue it. But when life asked me to choose, between that path and being present for my family, I stepped off the linear track. I left my job. I let go of my plan.

It felt like failure. It felt like freefalling.

We moved from Amsterdam to the Canary Islands and started a restaurant, a life far removed from the structured career I’d envisioned. For years, I judged that choice. It felt like I had deviated from my purpose. But slowly, through lived experience, I came to see it differently. I hadn’t lost time, I had gained depth. What I once saw as detours were actually the most enriching chapters of my life.

When time is circular, nothing is wasted. Every experience feeds the next. The goal isn’t to move faster toward a destination, but to move with the moment, to focus deeply, to learn and grow, and in doing so, rise to a higher level of awareness. From that place, we make different choices. We shape different realities. And together, we shape the world we live in.

Timeline Hacking and the Illusion of Spiritual Shortcuts

Much of modern spiritual language turns time into something we can hack, leap, or shortcut.

“Quantum shifts,” “instant manifestations,” or “collapsing timelines” sound empowering, but are often used to bypass the inner work real change requires. The danger? We trade patience for fantasy, and confuse intensity with alignment.

You can’t speed up what hasn’t yet taken root. And you can’t skip the soil.

The allure of quick results is understandable, but real transformation isn’t always comfortable. Like in the movie The Matrix, choosing to wake up means facing discomfort, uncertainty, and sometimes even pain. But what lies on the other side is worth it: the truth. And with it, the power to live in awareness.

That’s why Neo chose the red pill. Not because it promised comfort, but because it promised truth. When you see through the illusion of time and the shortcuts sold by spiritual marketing, you realize that awareness itself is a choice. Not a destination. Not an upgrade. But a quiet, radical return to yourself.

Beyond the matrix, good and bad dissolve. There is no “right timeline” to reach. There is only the experience of awareness itself, and the decision to be present for it, whatever it brings.

The Power Station Within

While I caution against spiritual marketing and the illusion of shortcuts, that doesn’t mean I reject spiritual practices. On the contrary, I walk that path myself. And I’m deeply grateful and genuinely excited that the world has opened up to these teachings in such an accelerated way.

But if we hope to move toward a true collective awakening, we need to build a solid spiritual foundation. Without that grounding, we risk feeding the collective ego, turning beautiful practices into tools for spiritual bypassing, greed, or laziness.

That’s why I’ve begun working on a visual methodology to track the energy we generate through our life experiences, not in theory, but in practice. It’s built on the understanding that our body and mind together form a power station. We generate energy through the seven chakras, from the root up, and this energy spirals upward, fueling transformation. When fully aligned, this system creates momentum. It’s what ancient teachings may have called kundalini. Or chi. Or life force.

Every experience we have, whether mundane or mystical, affects this energy system. And when we begin to track that effect, we start seeing time not as a series of goals to check off, but as a moving field of energy we can consciously navigate.

Surfing the Waves of Time: Becoming the Flow

This visual methodology is not about controlling time, but about learning to flow with it, shifting our perspective from scarcity and speed to rhythm and resonance. It helps us make better choices, not by calculating outcomes, but by tuning into how each experience feels, where it lands in the body, and how it fuels our personal and collective evolution.

When we realize that our experiences are not isolated events, but energetic patterns moving through a circular field of time, we stop racing toward the future and start dancing with the present. We become aware of the energy we create, and that awareness alone becomes the most powerful way to break free from the matrix.

Because once we understand how to navigate time not as a line, but as a living sphere, we don’t need to chase flow. We become it.

If this shift in perception resonates with you, if you feel called to integrate spiritual awareness with practical creation, then maybe it’s time to step into your own role as The One.
